The Big Racing Weekend at the SLOVAKIA RING
Orechová Potôň, May 22nd 2023 - The SLOVAKIA RING circuit will host a major motor racing weekend: OMV MaxxMotion Super Race Weekend (June 9-11) will showcase the OMV MaxxMotion Goodyear FIA ETRC TRUCK RACE OF SLOVAKIA - European Truck Racing Championship, classic F1 cars and much more.
The feature of the weekend will certainly be the FIA ETRC. The exciting five-ton racing trucks engage in true "bumper-to-bumper" battles. There will be two qualifying sessions and four feature races.
The Misano circuit hosted the opening round of the FIA ETRC 2023 season (May 20-21). It started in the same way as it finished last year - with the dominant pole lap by the reigning champion from Hungary Norbert Kiss (Revesz Racing team, MAN). However, Kiss had to retire in Race 1 due to a mechanical failure. The race was won by another great trucking champion, the German Jochen Hahn (IVECO). The Spaniard Antonio Albacete (Team T Sport Bernau, MAN) finished second and the German Andre Kursim (IVECO) third. In Race 2 Kiss didn't miss his chance and dominated the rainy heat after starting from the back of the grid. Despite a good fight, second Sascha Lenz (SL Apollo Tires Trucksport, MAN) finished way behind him, and Antonio Albacete was third. The second pole position of the weekend went again to Norbi Kiss, who also turned it into the second victory of the weekend in Race 3, ahead of Sascha Lenz and third Jochen Hahn. The last Race 4 was won by Antonio Albacete, who defeated José Eduardo Rodrigues (MAN) in second and Steffen Faas (Tankpool 24 Racing, Scania) in third. After the first Misano weekend Jochen Hahn leads the championship tables with 45 points ahead of the second Antonio Albacete (39 points) and the third is Norbert Kiss (36 points).
The accompanying program at the SLOVAKIA RING will once again be an experience for motorsport fans, but also for families. The stars of the TCR Eastern Europe touring car series will participate in two weekend races. Slovak Maťo Homola is the current leader of this popular TCR series. The season started at the German circuit Oschersleben, where Maťo won the first race straight away, finishing second in Race 2 behind teammate Carl Czepiel from the Janik Motorsport team on a Hyundai Elantra N TCR. At the next event at the Hungaroring, Milan Vukovic won Race 1 on a Renault Megan TCR, while Maťo finished fourth. Rene Kircher (Honda Civic TCR FK7) won Race 2 and Maťo improved to third place. The recent Red Bull Ring as Round 3 of the TCR EE belonged once again to Milan Vukovich, with Maťo Homola finishing Race 1 in fourth place. Race 2 winner was Davit Kajaia (Honda Civic TCR FK7) and Maťo improved to third place just like at the Hungaroring.
In addition to the TCR, the MaxxFormula series will certainly attract fans. It displays older, but beautiful and noisy F1 and GP2 single-seaters. For example, there should be a Benetton B197 F1 car with a V10 engine, formerly driven by Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi. Another great car - the 2013 Toro Rosso STR8 F1 car with a V8 engine was driven originally by Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne that year. Formula 4 will also be present as part of the ESET Cup. The Clio Cup, Suzuki Swift Cup and Mazda MX-5 Cup cup series will once again put on a great show.
In addition there will be an autograph session, but also an FMX stunt show and an air show with the L29 Delfín plane. Visitors always enjoy the popular animal park Malkia, as well as our go-kart centre and the military museum (with taxi rides on an armoured personnel carrier and on off-road vehicles).
