FIRST HEAT OF THE YEAR DURING QUALIFYING IN SLOVAKIA
Orechová Potôň, June 21, 2024 - As the first day of summer, the Slovakian weather was in line with what is usually expected this time of year. On the Slovak Karting Center circuit, Qualifying for the third round of the Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship - OK & Junior and the second round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy took place under blue skies, with the sun raising temperatures to 33°. The pole positions were claimed by Portugal's Noah Monteiro (KR/IAME/Maxxis) in OK, Italy's Filippo Sala (LN/TM Kart/Maxxis) in OK-Junior and Belgium's Gilles Herman in Academy.
201 drivers from 52 nations will be competing this weekend in Slovakia in three categories on the Slovak Karting Center's 1172 m long circuit, whose winding layout offers technical challenges that highlight the selectivity of the event. Qualifying Practice went extremely well as the first time that Maxxis tyres had been used in temperatures in excess of 30°C. Qualifying was intense in terms of managing on-track traffic and a number of drivers recorded poor performances, reinforcing the strategic importance of the upcoming Qualifying Heats.
