The Grand Prix of Slovakia promises a lot of action and entertainment

Orechová Potôň, August 1st, 2024 - The peak of summer also means preparation for the largest and most important Slovak motorsport event: OMV MaxxMotion Grand Prix of the Slovak Republic (August 23-25).

The Grand Prix has been a fixture on the Slovak racing scene and on the SLOVAKIA RING circuit since 2010. It occupies the traditional end of the summer holidays and, in addition to good weather, brings a dose of adrenaline, exciting races and fun outside the gates of the track.

Spectators can once again look forward to the all-day racing action in all kinds of classes and series: drivers and teams will score points in the FIA Central European Zone Trophy (FIA CEZ), ESET Cup, TCR and cup series. Let's take a closer look at them.

FIA CEZ includes Division D4 vehicles with GT class (e.g. GT3), but also TCR touring cars and prototypes of Division D5. Their program is divided into free practice on Friday, followed by qualifying (9:00 a.m.) and a 25-minute sprint (12:25 p.m.) on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning, they will then qualify for the second weekend race (2:00 p.m.) with a flying start.

The TCR European Endurance series is brand new series and SLOVAKIA RING is its final race. Two one-hour races are scheduled for Saturday (2:25 p.m.) and Sunday (3:00 p.m.).

With its format, the FIA Swift Cup Europe is one of the most entertaining forms of racing - both for drivers and spectators. A bloated field of identical and sharp Suzuki Swifts often promises a fight for every corner with three or five cars side by side and others in close proximity and on their bumpers. Their races are scheduled for Saturday (11:25 a.m.) and Sunday (4:35 p.m.). The Clio Cup series (races on Saturday at 10:25 a.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.) will be just as entertaining.

FIA CEZ Division D2 are mostly single-seaters of older Formula 3, Formula 4 or Formula Renault 2.0 homologation. We will see their race both on Saturday (1:25 p.m.) and on Sunday (11:30 a.m.).

A special class will be the race of touring cars with engines up to two litres (TC-2.0). Scheduled on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 10:35 a.m.

We will watch the traditional one-hour endurance race with the drivers’ change again early Saturday evening, starting at 4:55 p.m. The same classes as in the D4 sprints will start side by side. Our well-known racers Rišo Gonda and Maťo Homola will be behind the wheel. No less famous Štofi Rosina and Miro Konôpka will also race in sprints.

The accompanying program includes, for example, an air show with the Delfín L29 plane, there will be an autograph session, various children's attractions, also go-karting in the top Slovak karting centre, veterans will also show up and, of course, the Malkia Park zoo and the military museum will be accessible as well.
