TCR Eastern Europe together with FIA ETRC trucks
Orechová Potôň, 29. apríl 2024 - Along with the spring season, the motor racing season also started at the SLOVAKIA RING. Already at the beginning of June, we will experience one of the highlights of the year: along with the FIA ETRC European Truck Racing Championship (June 7-9), TCR Eastern Europe will also take place.
The TCR Eastern Europe (TCR EE) began its sixth season last weekend. TCR touring car series are among the most popular worldwide. Each global region has its championship. Slovakia has the reigning champion of TCR EE, Maťo Homola. He started his title defense with a victory at the opening event of the year - at the new Hungarian circuit Balaton Park (27th-28th April).
Maťo Homola (Hyundai Elantra N TCR, Janík Motorsport team) lost half a second in qualifying to his teammate Adam Kout (CZ) for pole position, but the first race already brought much better moments for our hero: among the field of fourteen registered racers, Maťo battled for the lead with talented Hungarian Attila Bucsi from the M1RA Motorsport team (Hyundai i30N TCR). Although Bucsi crossed the finish line first, he received an additional 10-second penalty for a jump start. Thus, the first victory went home.
The second sprint race of the weekend started with the top 10 drivers from the first race in reverse order. Attila Bucsi secured his debut victory there. After close battles, Maťo Homola also fought his way to the podium, finishing in third place. Homola leads the championship standings with 41 points.
