Alpe Adria with a New Track Record
Orechová Potôň, September 24, 2024 - Last weekend, Slovakia Ring hosted the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship series. The penultimate event of this year's calendar promised title battles in several classes, which was confirmed, as some riders left Slovakia’s only permanent circuit with the title of this year's champion already secured.
Nearly 150 riders from 18 European countries competed not only for Alpe Adria championship points but also for national championship standings and other cup classes. The Supersport 300 class delivered exciting battles, with Czech rider Dan Tureček celebrating victory on Saturday. Although he finished third on Sunday, with Turek Mert Konuk winning, Tureček still holds a comfortable lead in the standings before the final event. Slovakian representatives, Ladislav Veverka and Lucia Murgašová, also impressed local fans.
Both Supersport New Generation races were dominated by Czech rider Jonáš Kocourek, who strengthened his lead in the standings. Two wins by Slovak Tomáš Svitok in the Supersport class secured him the 2024 championship title ahead of the final event. In the Superstock 600 class, victories were shared between Austrian Leon Lambing and Croatian Carlo Grsić, bringing Grsić within eleven points of the leading Italian Francesco Amati.
In the Superstock 1000 class, victories went to Polish rider Oleg Pawelec and Hungarian Máté Számadó, but Slovenian rider Marko Jerman holds all the cards heading into the final round, likely securing the overall title.
Czech rider Michal Filla already celebrates his 2024 Superbike title after dominating both races, making him unbeatable in the standings. Swedish rider Chris Bergman, of the Slovak Maco Racing team, finished second both times.
The weekend at Slovakia Ring also saw a new lap record for motorcycles. Polish rider Milan Pawelec, in the BMW Cup class, broke his own record by half a second, setting a time of 2:02.863. To top it off, he also recorded the fastest-ever lap in motorcycle qualifying, with a time of 2:02.665.
The final event of the Alpe Adria championship will take place from October 18-20 in Rijeka, Croatia.
