Kiss a Homola – dominators of the Super Racing Weekend

Orechová Potôň, Slovakia June 11, 2023 – OMV MAXXMOTION SUPER RACING WEEKEND brought plenty of action and great racing during both days (June 10-11). The Hungarian racer Norbert Kiss confirmed his dominance in the FIA ETRC TRUCK RACE OF SLOVAKIA – European Truck Racing Championship, while Maťo Homola from Slovakia consolidated his leadership in the TCR Eastern Europe touring car races.

The beginning of the Super Racing Weekend faced frequent rain, or even a strong cloudburst. Nevertheless, the fans who visited Slovakia Ring witnessed great racing theater. Traditionally, the biggest highlight of the weekend was the FIA ETRC, in which dominated Hungarian racer Norbi Kiss on his MAN truck, just like a year ago. He won all 4 races and he leads in the current standings. In the first race, with delayed start of 45 minutes due to a strong cloudburst, he started from pole position and won the race by leading from start to finish. Second place was taken by Antonio Albacete (MAN) and the third by Sascha Lenz (MAN). In the second race, the drivers started in the reverse order, so Kiss was in the 8th position, from which he worked his way up to the lead in less than 5 laps and he took his second win of the day. Jochen Hahn with his IVECO truck came second and the third place took André Kursim with his IVECO truck.

Sunday´s races were quite similar, but with more stable weather. Kiss earned his pole position In Qualifying, and turned it into another win. The second place went to the German Sascha Lenz and third to the Spaniard Antonio Albacete (MAN). In the last, fourth race with the reversed order of the starting grid, Luis Recuenco (IVECO) started from the first place, Kiss went from eigth. With the frenetic support of a large number of Hungarian fans Kiss made his way to the leading competitor and he overtook him three laps before the end of the race. Jochen Hahn (IVECO) finished second and André Kursim (IVECO) took the third place.

The TCR Eastern Europe series continued with its fourth round during the Super Racing Weekend, in which Slovak Maťo Homola driving his Hyundai Elantra N TCR defended his leadership. Starting from the second place and knowing his home track perfectly, he won the first race. The second place belonged to Davit Kajai and the third was Maťo Homola´s teammate Carl Czepiel from Janík Motorsport. On Sunday Maťo started his drive from 8th position, determined by draw. Lap after lap he fought his way to the front positions. He finished the race in the second place, behind Giacomo Ghermandi (Audi RS3). The Italian received a 10s penalty for an early start, which allowed Maťo to move into first position and obtain a valuable double victory. Second place was taken by Philip Dietrich on Cupra Leon Competition TCR from Austria and third by Georgian Davit Kajaia with his Honda Civic TCR.

In addition to it, the acompanying programme of the Super Racing Weekend was complemented by smaller cup series within the ESET Cup – Clio Cup, Mazda Cup and Suzuki Swift Cup. F1 and GP2 single-seaters from the MaxxFormula provided a perfect „soundscape“ during their exhibition. The F4 single-seaters brought thrilling fights during their race as well.
