Rallycross did not disappoint
Orechová Potôň, October 8 2023 – The second weekend of October belonged to the traditional autumn event - Rallycross Championships of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and the Trophy of the Central Europe zone with 124 competitors from seven European countries. Spectators witnessed a lot of fights and drama until the last moments.
Drivers were racing in 5 different divisions on the 1400 meter long track. 5 national championships and seven affiliated ones within the Rallycross Cup races took place. Friday's free practice sessions and heats primarily belonged to the Rallycross Cup, the final races were scheduled on Saturday morning. The three fastest drivers of the largest Czech Škoda Cup were Tomáš Martan in Škoda Felicia, Milan Kostolanský in Škoda Felicia and Martin Najman in Škoda Citygo. Among the Slovaks, Vladimír Marko, starting in the Czech Rallycross Cup and the S1600+ division, did the best, taking the third place in the Škoda Fabia S1.6+. Jakub Terina in Seat Leon FR and Pavol Zachar in Škoda Fabia 2 finished behind him in fourth place.
Saturday afternoon continued with the races of the other divisions, and in pleasant sunny weather the drivers collected important points for Sunday's semi- and final races.
Sunday already belonged to the last races from the previous day and then to the semi/final races. In relatively cold and increasingly windy weather, the spectators in the stands again witnessed a lot of fights and exciting races until the last moments.
The biggest excitement traditionally brought the strongest Super Cars class, in which special cars with 4x4 drive and over 500 horsepower started. Overall, Hungarian Zoltán Held on AUDI A1 performed best in this class, Gerald Eder from Austria finished second on Skoda Fabia SC. The third place was taken by Slovakian Miroslav Pospíchal in Škoda Fabia RX SC, who gave up the fight for second place due to technical problems, but at least he reached the finish line. Technical problems also accompanied Alois Holler from Austria on a Ford Fiesta SC, who eventually withdrew from the race after the second round.
Spectators experienced great drama in the STC-2000 class, in which Slovakian Vladimír Marko started on a VW Polo STC-2000. The first laps after the start clearly belonged to Roman Častoral, who had a relatively decent lead, but a driver's mistake two laps before the end still left him in the first two places and he ended up third. The Polish Robert Dabrowski won the championship on his VW Polo IV, the Czech Martin Šindelek finished second on his Peugeot 207. Vladimír Marko took fourth place in the final order.
Next event of the 2023 season at the SLOVAKIA RING circuit will be the Czech Drift Series (October 13-14) and the season will end with the traditional Auto Show exhibition rally (November 17-18).
