Norbert Kiss dominated Saturday at the SLOVAKIA RING, with the second victory decided by a margin of just 0.010 seconds
Orechová Potôň, June 6, 2026 – The opening day of the OMV MAXXMOTION GOODYEAR TRUCK RACE OF SLOVAKIA event brought two thrilling races of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship to the SLOVAKIA RING circuit. In both cases, the victory went to the reigning champion Norbert Kiss, who strengthened his lead in the provisional championship standings.
The first Saturday race was marked by the dominance of the Hungarian driver from the Révész Racing team. Kiss converted pole position into his fourth victory of the 2026 season, building a lead over his biggest title rival, Jochen Hahn, after a flawless performance. The German driver took second place, finishing 6.650 seconds behind, while Sascha Lenz finished third.
An interesting battle also unfolded for fourth place, where José Eduardo Rodrigues overtook Mark Taylor in the very last corner. However, Taylor took home the victory in the Chrome category. René Reinert delivered an excellent performance, fighting his way from 14th on the grid—following technical issues in qualifying—all the way to eighth place at the finish line.
The second race offered an even more dramatic climax. Reinert started from pole position thanks to the partially reversed starting grid and resisted his rivals' attacks for a long time. However, Kiss gradually worked his way up from eighth place to Reinert's rear bumper and launched a decisive attack on the final lap.
The winner was ultimately decided by a literal photo-finish. Kiss defeated Reinert by an incredible 0.010 seconds, marking one of the closest finishes in the history of the European Truck Racing Championship. Third place went to Steffi Halm, who claimed her first podium of the season. Antonio Albacete finished fourth, and Mark Taylor took fifth, repeating his triumph in the Chrome category.
Jochen Hahn suffered bad luck, failing to finish the second race due to a technical failure, which allowed Norbert Kiss to significantly increase his lead in the provisional championship standings.
The OMV MAXXMOTION GOODYEAR TRUCK RACE OF SLOVAKIA program continues at the SLOVAKIA RING on Sunday. Fans can look forward to another two races of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, which could once again significantly shake up the standings in the battle for the European title.
