Beautiful new Slovak Championship trophy for Miro Konôpka
Orechová Potôň, August 23, 2026 - A new tradition of the Grand Prix of Slovakia Winners’ Cup in circuit racing began this weekend at Slovakia Ring near Orechová Potôň. The magnificent hand-painted Modra ceramic trophy, featuring the names of the Grand Prix winners since 2010, was lifted above his head for the first time by Miro Konôpka, who won the opening race of the OMV MaxxMotion Grand Prix of Slovakia 2026 weekend.
The 17th edition of the OMV MaxxMotion Grand Prix of Slovakia set several records. The event attracted competitors from the Central European Zone and the national championships of Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Slovenia and Croatia, which was reflected in a packed paddock. More than 170 drivers took to the track, which is impressive in itself, while Saturday’s schedule was equally intense, featuring 10 races.
The circuit paddock, including the new sector, was filled with cars spanning a wide range of performance levels and technology — from the tiny Maluchs, which serve as an entry point into motorsport and had spectators on the edge of their seats shortly after breakfast despite their modest power, to an impressive field of powerful D4 GT, D5, touring cars up to 3,500 cc and GT Cup Series machines. The drivers of the traditional racing machinery, the D2 formula cars, also put on spectacular races. In none of the categories did we see a predictable procession by the fastest drivers; quite the opposite — every race was packed with changes in position.
In the royal GT class, the ARC Bratislava team dominated the sprint races, taking all three overall podium positions in the following order: Miro Konôpka, Zdeno Mikuláško and Adam Konôpka.
Miro Konôpka also won the one-hour endurance race held in the early evening, driving the ARC Bratislava team’s Ligier ahead of the Polish competitors from Aquaflame Racing.
Sunday’s races once again delivered plenty of drama and intense battles. In the most closely watched GT class, ARC Bratislava again dominated, taking first and third overall. Miro Konôpka once again claimed victory in the Ligier LMP3, ahead of Polish driver Filip Sterczewski, also driving a Ligier LMP3, with Zdeno Mikuláško taking third in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3.
In the TCR Eastern Europe touring car class, Adam Kout of Janík Motorsport performed best in a Hyundai Elantra N TCR, winning Saturday’s race and finishing second on Sunday.
