GT CUP SERIES – The premier class heads to SLOVAKIA RING

Orechová Potôň, May 25, 2026 - The GT CUP SERIES continues its 2026 season with the second event of the year, taking place from 5–7 June 2026 at Slovakia Ring. The races will be part of the prestigious OMV MAXXMOTION GOODYEAR FIA ETRC TRUCK RACE OF SLOVAKIA weekend, a round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship that is traditionally considered one of the biggest motorsport events in the region.

GT Cup Series: Gateway to the World of Major Circuits

The GT CUP SERIES holds official FIA International Series status within the FIA Central European Zone (FIA CEZ) and has long ranked among the most important circuit racing series in Central and Eastern Europe. The championship was created with the goal of supporting the development of circuit motorsport, providing opportunities for emerging drivers, while also creating a professional environment for experienced teams and racers.

The starting grids regularly feature a diverse field of GT cars, prototypes, and specials from various categories. Fans can see modern machines such as Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo, Mercedes AMG GT2, Ferrari 488 GT3, KTM X-BOW, as well as Ligier LMP3 prototypes. The series is open to amateur drivers and professional teams alike and is run according to FIA international sporting and technical regulations with a strong emphasis on maximum safety.

Each race weekend includes sprint races and endurance competitions. At Slovakia Ring, the highlight of the programme will be the traditional three-hour endurance event, representing one of the greatest challenges of the season. Compared to the standard one-hour endurance races, it will test not only the speed of the drivers, but also team strategy, technical reliability, and the work of mechanics during pit stops.

Originally, the second event of the season was scheduled to take place at Grobnik in Croatia, however the races were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Following the season opener in Austria, the GT CUP SERIES will therefore appear in Slovakia as the second round of the 2026 season.

The series will return to Slovakia Ring once again at the end of August as part of Slovakia’s biggest automobile racing event – the OMV MaxxMotion Grand Prix of the Slovak Republic (21–23 August). The season will then conclude in October at the modernised Hungarian Hungaroring, a circuit that is part of the Formula 1 calendar.

Drama Right from the Start of the Season

The season opener took place from 10–12 April at the legendary Red Bull Ring, which hosts Formula 1, MotoGP, and DTM races. Spectators witnessed an exceptionally attractive weekend featuring more than 30 cars on the grid and dramatic battles in both sprint races.

The first winner of Sunday’s programme was local driver Marius Aigner driving a KTM X-BOW for the MZR Motorsport Zentrum Ried team. The second sprint race was dominated by Slovak driver Miro Konôpka in the Ligier JS 320 LMP3 prototype of the ARC Bratislava team.

It was precisely the battles between Aigner and Konôpka that became one of the highlights of the entire weekend. During the afternoon race, the two drivers exchanged the lead position several times, while spectators watched a thrilling wheel-to-wheel fight over multiple laps. In the end, the experienced Slovak driver Konôpka emerged victorious.

An excellent performance was also delivered by Czech driver Ondřej Rokos in the Mercedes AMG GT2 of the RTR Projects team, who finished third in both races and also dominated the GTX category. Considerable attention was also drawn by another Czech racer, Dennis Waszek, with the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo. After technical problems in qualifying forced him to start from 30th and last place, he fought his way up to fourth overall in the first sprint race.

Czech driver Antonín Herbeck is also returning to form. After years competing with the Pagani Zonda GT1, he is now racing a Ferrari 488 GT3 and recorded two podium finishes in the GTX category at the Red Bull Ring.

The GT CUP SERIES 2026 season continues on 5–7 June at Slovakia Ring, where strong international competition, exciting battles, and a unique combination of GT racing with the FIA ETRC European Truck Championship, Formula 4 races, and endurance races of the TCR European Endurance championship are all expected.
